Lukaku profit misused by Everton!!! What is wrong?

Faulty transfer policy

Davy Klaassen (23.6 million pounds)

Has not featured much for much discussion and that is how we start seeing the cracks in Everton's transfer policy. When he was signed much hype surrounded his arrival from the Dutch league. Fast-forward eight months and he hasn't made a note. With Glyfi injured he may yet get his chance to shine, but such is the life of a premier league player. Harsh critique for a first season coming from a technical league that is much slower and not as physical, nonetheless professionals nowadays, much is expected especially when you are spending that kind of cash.

Michael Keane (25 million pounds)

Not an assured start since his move but the solution looks to be partnering him with a more senior teammate. Dropped by coach for repeated errors at the back this season. Secondly most thought this was a secure buy from Burnley back in 2017 and now one wonders if they have to resume the hunt for the "new John Stones"

Ageing players

Everton's Top scorer is Wayne Rooney, the veteran with eleven goals, the most of any Everton player this season, but besides the low figure he is the wrong side of 30 and doesn't even play the number 9 role he built his career on. He occupies a deeper position and influences the pace of the game, keeping them ticking. Although he handled his new role well, this arrangement is certainly not the answer for a club that wants to be challenging the big six of the premier league.

Leighton Baines is also back from injury but surely he can't go on for much longer, similarly to Coleman, who is also back from a lengthy injury. This leaves us to wonder what the backline will look like next season if the right manager takes the helm. With his cultured left foot and good mobility for a guy increasing in age, if used well he can add a few more years, but one wonders if academy graduate Kenny should be selected in front the regulars. Guess that would be a long-term approach which Everton only conveniently switches on and off.

Phil Jageilka is a good reader of the game but he is no John Terry. He has occupied the center of defense for some years now but never seems to reach that top level. Some may say it is due to him not raising his game and running out for a top four side, while others may leave it up to simply a lack of actual talent required. He still has handled himself well most times and is a legend in his own right.

This club does business, they sell their best players and buy new players much like a host of clubs globally who are recognized feeder clubs for bigger ones. Some examples in point are the relationship between Southampton and Liverpool, Arsenal players and Barcalona at a point in time, and Dortmund and Bayern. The problem Everton faces is not peculiar, as the brightest and best talent is shipped onward like a product on a conveyor belt.

. . . . . . .Why did they sell John Stones 47 million to City?

No Lukaku replacement

Terrible displays in Europe against Lyon and Atlanta where they finished third can be attributed to poor defense and no ideas up front against physically and motivated opposition.

Tonsun hadn't settled in yet but the display those nights make me speculate that his contributions would not have shifted the tide.

 Few academy players of worth

Tom Davies

  • When you talk about him you can't help but remember that strike against Manchester City.
  • Technically gifted, but a bit on the feather weight side.
  • Could develop into the number 10 role.

Dominic Calvert- Lewin

  • Good at playing off the striker
  • Does not solve the number nine problem as he contributed more assist than goals, maybe an indication of his strengths and future roles.
  • Bright prospect must be monitored and given opportunities.

  2. LOl @ sudesh... Love Rooney, brings a certain formality to Football, but he is definitely part of an aging football population... New blood is required...
